2017 May Monthly Reads

I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! — When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”
― Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

2017 In Reading | May Monthly Reads

May is the month where I tried to challenge myself to read books in a different genre ― poetry.

High school is where poetry goes to die
J.G. MCCLURE

I’m not a fan of poetry. It’s intimidating and reminds me of my high school nightmare memories when I had to recite a poem in front of the class.

No. More. Spotlight. Please.

And all the massive amount of ‘this doesn’t make sense at all’ prose and verses that I have to remember because of exam didn’t help at all. But I decided to give it a try and surprisingly poetry is not that bad.2017 May monthly reads book review

1. Ivy In Bloom by Vanita Oelschlager ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

2. Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

3. Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

4. Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Milk and Honey is a major disappointment to me because I have been looking forward to reading it after seeing her posts went viral on Tumblr. Some of the poems are good but the rest are just meh. Alafiya‘s review summed up what I felt about the book perfectly.

2 stars for the beautiful thoughts.

So if I write my review
like this
will it
automatically
become poetry?
In my humble opinion
this book is
composed of
extremely beautifully
written lines
but there are very
few
poems
actually.
what i dont
understand
is why

you have to
click the enter key
to make it look
beautiful
when u can
continue
the same line
same paragraph
same page
also
why a published book
gives no shit
about
capitalizing ‘i’
is
beyond me

4. Ze Tian Ji / Way of Choices by Mao Ni ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Mao Ni has finally finished the book and even though the ending is ambiguous, the book is one of the best books that I have read this year.

But…… If you are always part of the plot?”
If you have lived in a plot?”
If your existence itself is a plot?”

How. Could. You. Do. This. To. Me.

5. A Will Eternity by Er Gen ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

6. Wo Yu Feng Tian by Er Gen ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
