Blog Traffic VS Comments | Which One Is More Important?

I’m back again with another blogging topic after my previous post on 13 rookie blogger mistakes to avoid. So, the main topic for today is blog traffic vs comments! Both which is my favourite *wink*

If you’re a blogger, you know that having xx number of blog traffic per month is one of the best ways to measure your blog success. Of course, for some, getting comments, likes, or any sort of engagement is more important for their blog growth. But, the question is, which one is more important and why?

Blog Traffic vs Comments

Blog Traffic VS Comments

Blog Traffic vs Comments; Blog Traffic

Blog traffic. Stats.

The higher the numbers, the happier I am.

First and foremost, I started blogging mostly because I love writing. Gradually, I began to like the designing aspect of blogging; creating blog graphics and web design. Plus. seeing my blog post visually either on the computer screen or on the phone is an extremely satisfying feeling.

But, I’m not going to lie.

I want people TO READ my blog. I want to be appreciated for my writing. And that equals to blog traffic.

What’s the point of me making my blog posts public, sharing it on Instagram and Twitter, promoting my blog link to my friends if I don’t want people to read my blog?

And not to mention that it is the first thing that I see when I log on into my WordPress account. I couldn’t count the number of times I refresh my page just to see if the stats increase. And to be honest, you guys did it too right?

Why blog traffic is important?

Blog traffic is where the money is. For bloggers whose blogging is their job, the brands would definitely ask for your numbers.

And if ads are one of your blog source income, high blog traffic is crucial than ever. For example, Media Vine who offers better pay than Google AdSense requires 25,000 sessions (not page view) per month.

That number is insane for a tiny blogger like me who barely manage to get 2-3k views per month.

Of course, there are plenty of methods to make money through blogging like selling courses, digital media, affiliates etc. but to make these sales, having a wider audience is definitely a plus.

Also, it’s exciting to see increasing stats.

By the way. the new Google Analytics is cool!

Why comments, like are important?

Blogging is not my career.

That is pretty obvious from the frequency of my blog posting so getting a social interaction through the comment section, or through social media like Instagram, talking about the topics that we’re passionate about is FUN.

It’s cliche but I met so many people around the world with the same hobby as mine; reading, blogging, travelling, note-taking etc. I wouldn’t get this opportunity if I didn’t start blogging.

And this little social interaction – likes, comments, people telling me they like my blog *blushing* makes me feel good and motivated to keep blogging.

What do other bloggers think?

Around the last 3 weeks, I conducted a survey on both Instagram and Twitter, and surprise surprise, majority votes for comments/engagement on Twitter while on Instagram, the results are divided between the two.

Survey results Instagram

I thought that blog traffic will win with little competition but statistics showed otherwise. Clearly, the majority of my blogger friends who participated in the survey favour comments/engagement more. Maybe because most of us are blogging for fun hence why engagement is more important.

My opinion

For me. I ‘d LOVE to have BOTH!

Greedy but I just couldn’t choose between the two. Both are important to me even though I’m not making even a cent with my blog but I just love seeing numbers and people commenting on my post. I’m not the only one who feels like this right? Hello? Anybody?

p/s: Sophia @ Bookwyrming Thoughts wrote a fun quiz on ‘What Type of Blogger Are You‘ so please check it out and tell me your result!

  1. I like both, but can’t always have what we want I guess haha!! I think both are important. With comments it’s building a community which is important! Xx

    1. I’m greedy so I prefer both too! LOL. With higher traffic, I can get more comments and building community is great when you have a wider audience.

  2. sedihnya x dapat sign up for mediavine sebab nak ada domain sendiri.. and I still using blogspot huhuh~
So far as you can see in my blog I love to update the statistics/pageviews because I like to see my improvement in blogging.. So traffic is important for self achievement and attract more brand for paid job hahaha~ Comments is important as well. Not everyone is like to comment to my blog, but if there is any.. I love to read their comments.. I felt appreciated when someone write their opinion..

    1. Mediavine kena ada domain sendiri ke? I didn’t even know that ingat kena ada pageview banyak je.
Yep. Traffic is important if you want to get more jobs through blogging.
